Personal reflections, impressions, and observations on the real and the imaginary that make up my world of perception.

Before me the Word...

Open wide the Bible rests upon its perch,
its pages full of ancient tales and teachings,
its heavy legacy grown heavier with time,
its mass more ponderous with the dust of age.
Before me, the Word of God, set down by man,
beside it a burning candle to illumine the Word,
around me the dense darkness of the void.

The Word, the Flame, the Light of the World.

I can go into that Light, embrace that Word,
or I can turn away and melt back into the dark.
There is no easy way, no choice free of doubt;
either way the path is long and winding,
and fraught with trials and tribulations.

The darkness, the candle flame, the stillness,
and in their midst the Word writ upon the page.
And a soft sweet holy chant born in my mind,
gently welling within me, gentle but strong,
fills me as I stand in the darkness before the Word
that illumines the Light that illumines the Word
that feeds the soul with the breath of the Spirit…

Waiting for Christmas...

Part of the Christmas magic

Christmas had come and been and gone,

the candles had lived out their life and were no more,

the baubles were in a plastic bag and so was the tinsel,

all stored up in the hold-all loft to hibernate away,

keeping company with a thousand and one other things,

some there for a short while, others for rather longer,

all shrouded in unbroken darkness and silence.. for now,

until one fine day they might be sought out again,

some to serve as they had done before, but some..

some to be cast out and to serve no more.

For the Christmas things their time would come again,

twelve months was not so long to wait, and then…

then they would shine again, then the party would begin again,

then they would glitter and glint again, bathed in fairy light

and in the special magic that was forever Christmas.

Naked capers

Naked backpacking
Backpacking is a very popular activity nowadays, especially among the young. But few of them ever think of doing it in the buff even when they're trekking in the hottest of climates. This lot however, well past their formative years, have decided to travel light and they're not going to be intimidated by social sensitivities. So it's off with their rags and it's out with tits and bums. And when you think about it, it's a pretty practical thing to do: they have discarded excess weight, they're feeling fresher and comfier, and when they need to go for a pee or a poo they don't have clothing to contend with which will eventually start to smell of their body waste! It's the solution to a host of problems and it entails no expense. They run the risk of course of being arrested and banged in the slammer on contact with civilisation but that's the only down side.

Head-over-heels in love
While there may be perfectly valid and understandable reasons for our intrepid backpackers above to go butt-naked, it's hard to see what advantage is to be gained by the bungee jumpers in our next photo, unless it is to extract some sort of sexual thrill. Even so, it must surely be well-nigh impossible to achieve full penetration whilst dangling in mid-air upside-down on the end of a rope and in the presence of onlookers! Still, there they are, starkers and clinging to each other and presumably enjoying the moment. It's an experience that few if any of us can boast about, bungee jumpers or not. Let's just hope the rope stands the strain of their combined weight and their jiggling around in the throes of sexual pleasure.

Leaping lunatics

And now on a more light-hearted note, here is an energetic couple who have taken to leaping about the countryside as though they were doing a re-make of the Sound of Music, except that this is clearly the x-rated adult version. You have to admire their gusto and sense of adventure as they bound about the hills in the altogether like a pair of maniacs run amock. It's not a pretty sight but who's looking? Well, we are actually, as is the person who took this photo of them. Luvverly!

Sensible vs Sexy

Below we have two young women, both in the same precarious situation, that is out in the rain, and both toting a brolly, but each with a very different approach.

The first woman has adopted the common-sense approach: she is sensibly if somewhat tawdrily dressed, and with a terrible sense of colour coordination and the inevitable dirty trainers. In fact, so sensible is this lady that she has taken the precaution of bringing with her a spare umbrella, just in case the first one comes to grief and she is left unprotected in the rain. It means of course that she has to lug around a garish oversized brute of a brolly, looking as though she stole the awning off a fairground stall, but what is that beside the feeling of security she has thus equipped with two umbrellas? All backpackers should note - as they trudge up the precipitous slopes of Mount Everest or Mont Blanc or even St Michael's Mount, as this woman may indeed be intending to do judging by the rather large rucksack on her back - that their climbing kit is not complete unless it includes two brollies! So take your cue from this 'sensible' woman.

Sensible Woman

Now we come to the not-so-sensible woman, the sexy woman, as I've named her. Just one glance at her tells us that this lass definitely has the full kit, but is it the right one for these weather conditions? Once again it is raining and once again the lady in question is sheltered by an umbrella, though there is no back-up brolly in this case. And yet by some cruel trick of Nature it is only raining under her brolly and nowhere else! However, that aside, her outfit cannot be faulted for its practicality. She won't have wet clothes to change out of when she gets home and she will have the satisfaction of knowing she did not let anything come between her and Mother Nature. Not to mention that her sense of colour coordination is excellent. A white umbrella crowning her pale body - clarity and purity in one! Thus attired (or unattired), she is always ready to venture outdoors at the drop of a hat. Sexy she is but is she not sensible too?

Sexy Woman

Well there you have it, my dear readers. Two women, two lots of rainy weather, and two different attitudes. Caution and common-sense versus the bold and the bare. Which is your preferred approach? Which ticks all the boxes for you? Answers on a postcard, please.

See you in my next post when I get to grips with another burning issue of the day!
